Carpenter ants are found inside homes in Ramsey Minnesota dealing with water damage. Carpenter ants are attracted to soft rotting wood. They chew tunnels through the wood to store their eggs, larvae, and food. When a home has carpenter ants it is common to find frass or sawdust in the most active areas. The most common wasps in Ramsey are the bald-faced hornet, paper wasp, and yellow jacket. Each of these wasps are social wasps meaning they live in colonies. Each colony is started from scratch each spring by a queen wasp that hibernated over the winter. The Queen locates a place to start her nests and lays her first few eggs. When these eggs hatch the worker wasps leave the nest to start foraging for the queen and the nest. These products will not exterminate a wasp nest that is hidden inside another structure. This only affects the workers flying in and out of the nest. Boxelder bugs and stink bugs are common insects to find in Ramsey Minnesota. Most people start noticing them in the fall and springtime. During the fall both insects are driven to find a home or building to overwinter inside. During the spring, those insects that were inside the home find a way out and can be found along the edge of the home soaking up the warm spring sun rays. Over the winter neither of these bugs mate or lay eggs. They start mating right away once they back outside. Boxelder bugs mate and lay their eggs on female boxelder trees and maple trees that produce helicopter seeds. Stink bugs mate and lay eggs on various vegetable and fruit plants. Some of the most common include; grapes, apples, tomatoes, and sweet corn.
