Ants in Prior Lake Minnesota

Carpenter ants in Woodbury Minnesota

Carpenter Ants

Carpenter ants are commonly found in Prior Lake. They are between 0.35-1.0 inches in length. They nest inside rotted wood in trees, tree stumps, and homes. Inside their nests, they chew small tunnels or galleries in the wood to store eggs, larvae, and food. The ants seen above ground only make up 10% of the entire ant colony. The rest of the colony stays inside the nest. They use the soft wood to create a microclimate to help their pupa and larvae grow into healthy worker ants, male ants, or queen ants. Both male and queen ants have wings and mate in early to mid-summer during a nuptial flight ritual. After the mating the males die and the females fly to locate a new nesting sight

Signs of pavement ants

Pavement Ants

Pavement ants or sugar ants are much smaller than carpenter ants. They are between 2.5-4 millimeters long. When living outside they build their nests under driveways, garage slabs, sidewalks, and patios. In the winter they can be found nesting inside homes under floor boards, heated floors, and various home appliances. A sign of a pavement ant colony living inside would be seeing ants with wings. The winged ants are either signs of the ants reproducing or locating a new nesting sight.

Ant Service in St. Paul Minnesota

Ant Service

We provide interior and exterior ant treatments in Prior Lake Minnesota. The interior treatment is applied in the winter or early spring when the ground is frozen or covered in snow. When we treat inside, we use a foam-based product to fill inside various cracks and services that the ants are crawling out of. The products absorb into the wood or tile. Once it’s dry it affects the ants that crawl over the sprayed surfaces. The exterior treatment focuses on treating around the foundation of the home. In both treatments, the product is designed to keep the ants alive long enough to carry the product back to the rest of the colony. It takes 30 days for an ant colony to be exterminated after each service is completed.

Mice in Prior Lake Minnesota

Mouse evidence in St. Paul Minnesota

Mouse Behavior

The mice living in and around Prior Lake behave based on temperature. As temperatures drop mice start entering inside structures searching for warmth. They find entry points to get inside by using scent trails. Scent trails are invisible trails left by other mice urinating microscopic droplets on the structure. Over time these scent trails can become visible and are known as rub marks. Once inside mice will nest inside insulation and foundation blocks to stay warm. They will also stockpile food inside. Some of the most common foods being seeds, nuts and pet food.

Wasps in Prior Lake Minnesota

yellow jackets in Minnesota facts page

Yellow Jackets

Yellow jackets in Prior Lake are the most aggressive wasps in the area. They build their nests in various locations and can often catch homeowners off guard. Their nests can be found underground, inside retaining walls, trees, and build aerial nests. Each of their nests can house thousands of wasps by the end of the summer. Similar to the rest of the social wasp population only a small percentage of the wasps leave the nest. These wasps either forage for food or materials to grow their nests. They find nest-building material by chewing thin layers off of dried-up wood. They take the thin layers and mix them with their saliva making the papery material their nests are made out of.

Wasp removal service preventative

Wasp Service

The two wasp services we provide for our Prior Lake customers include a preventive service and a wasp nest exterminating service. The preventative service is designed to keep wasps from building nests on the exterior of the home. We spray a product that sticks to the siding of the home and stays effective for 2 months. During those 2 months, any wasps that land on the sprayed surfaces will die. Our exterminator service is used to exterminate already built nests whether it’s in the ground, a tree, or on a home. These services are especially effective with nests that are inside another structure. Our product is designed to keep the wasps that leave the nests alive long enough to carry the product back inside to the rest of the colony. All other products you buy off the shelf will only kill the wasps leaving the nest

Mouse habitat Deephaven Minnesota

Spider Habitat

Spiders are known to be attracted to living in habitats with heavy insect populations. Since a spider’s diet consists of eating other insects they prefer to live in places that offer them an abundance of food. These habitats include places around bodies of water such as; lakes, marshes, and swamps. In these habitats mosquitos, flies, ticks and other insects provide spiders with an all-you-can-eat buffet. When it comes to spiders living inside a home the same thing applies. Spiders are commonly found living inside homes with other insect problems. Spiders will populate places that provide them with the most food.

Spider service in the Twin Cities of Minnesota

Spider Service

The spider services we provide in Prior Lake Minnesota include an interior and exterior treatment. The exterior treatment is typically the most effective treatment option. The service keeps spiders from getting inside the home and building nests outside the home. During the exterior service, we remove as many nests around the home as possible. We then spray the foundation, around windows, doors, and soffits. The product then sticks to the outside of the home and kills any spiders or insects before they can get inside or build a nest. The interior service is used when spraying on the outside is no longer effective due to weather.

Boxelder Bugs and Stink Bugs in Prior Lake Minnesota

Boxelder Bugs

Boxelder bugs are found swarming on homes and buildings in the fall in Prior Lake Minnesota. During the fall boxelder bugs search for areas to overwinter. They are found mostly on the south side of various structures to warm their bodies up when temperatures drop at night. During the summer months, these bugs congregate around boxelder trees and maple trees that produce helicopter seeds. These seeds are the insect’s main food source. They lay their eggs on the leaves and bark on the trees.

Stink Bugs

Stink Bugs in Prior Lake Minnesota started appearing around 2010. They are an invasive insect from Eastern Asia. They came to the United States inside shipping crates. Since their first appearance, their population has exploded. In the summer these insects can be found living around various fruits and vegetables. Tomatoes, peaches, apples, corn, and grapes are a few of the most common. When temperatures start dropping they become motivated to find places to overwinter. Some of the most common ways they get inside are through soffit vents, chimneys, and the roof line

BOGO insect treatments

Boxelder and Stink Bug Service

The service we provide for our Prior Lake Customers to exterminate boxelder and stink bugs takes place in the fall. During this time, most of the insects start moving inside to overwinter. The product we use sticks to the surface of the home and stays effective for 2 months. During those 2 months, any boxelder or stink bug that lands on the outside of the home will die before it gets inside. We do not offer an interior service to kill the ones you see inside in the winter. By this time most bugs will already be inside. When inside they often populate inside the walls or other places we can’t spray. We spray the majority of the home on the exterior. This makes it more likely for the insects to cross over a sprayed area before getting inside. Insects that are inside in the winter do not breed or lay eggs in the home.
