Pavement Ants are prevalent in Lakeville, Minnesota. They build sand and dirt mounds on sidewalks, driveways, and patios. They are also known as grease ants and sugar ants. Yes, these are all the same ant. These ants can be seen inside homes all year round, including winter! Homes that are built slab on grade, with crawl spaces, heated floors, floor ventilation, or insulated foundations will have an increase in pavement ant activity.

Our ant services use products that allow the ants above ground to carry the treatment back to their nests. Ants are social insects that live in large colonies together. A majority of the ants in each colony never leave their nests. Most store-bought ant killer sprays will only affect the ants people see inside. Unfortunately, these ants only make up 10% of the actual colony. If they die the nest will send out more ants to offset those that did not come back. After our service we ask our customers, to wait 30 days for treatment to spread throughout the entire ant colony.

Ant Identification

Mouse Identification 

The three most common wasps in Lakeville, Minnesota, include bald-faced hornets, paper wasps, and yellow jackets. All three are social wasps. This means they live in colonies or nests together. Yellow jacket nests are the largest of the three and can house over 1000 wasps in one nest. Bald-faced hornets build large aerial nests. Their nest can house up to 500 wasps. Paper wasp nests are the smallest and at the most have 30-50 wasps per nest.

Wasps start becoming a problem for most homes in mid-May or early June. This is when wasps will start building their new nests from scratch. They do not reuse nests that were built the previous year. As beneficial as spiders are out in nature, they should not be living inside and building webs outside your home! Minnesota, being the land of lakes, causes spiders to multiply quickly and causes homeowners to panic. Our service prevents spiders from building webs outside homes and kills them before the can find their way inside.

Boxelder bugs, stink bugs, and Asian lady beetles move inside homes in the fall. During this time, it is common to see them crawling and sitting on the south side of homes, absorbing sunlight and looking for a way inside. Once inside, people can sometimes see them moving around the winter and especially the spring. In the winter, the sun can sometimes warm up the windows, roof, and siding enough to allow for some to wake up and move around. In the spring, they all wake up and start looking for ways to get out of the home

The best time of year to prevent these bugs from getting inside is in the fall. We designed a very thorough service where we treat the home from the foundation up as high as we can under the soffits and around the windows. The product we use kills all the insects that land on the siding before they get inside. We recommend getting on the schedule for the service sooner rather than later. Once the swarms of insects are on the house, theres most likely already a population inside.

The emerald ash borer is an invasive species that infects and kills ash trees. These beetles lay eggs in the bark of the trees. As the eggs hatch, the larvae chew through the bark to get to the cambium layer. This is the outermost layer of the tree or the youngest part of the tree. Once they reach this layer, they start to feed on it, creating grooves and lines. As this layer is damaged, the tree is no longer able to spread necessary nutrients to the canopy, and this slowly suffocates the tree.

Our Ash tree service has been tested and chosen by our certified arborist.  Our treatment uses pneumatic micro-injections. This method allows us to properly measure the correct dosage for each injection site around the trunk. This makes us see that the tree is taking up the correct amount of product. Once inside the tree, the product will protect the ash tree for the next 2 years against the emerald ash borer.
